With this in mind, we slept in. We were still camped when Nicole called on Skype about 9:45. After she hung up, we finally unhooked and headed for the beach which we did not see coming in last night because is it separated from the camping area by nearly a mile of thick pine forest.
The first thing I wanted to see was the Peter Iredale. On our only previous visit here, back in the mid-80s, I had taken some pretty good pictures of the wreck, and I was curious to see if there was still anything left of her. Much to my delight, there was, and better yet, the tide was out and the remains were high and dry.
It was a beautiful day and we lingered quite awhile. For Sadie, the beach was a whole new experience, and she seemed to find it very much to her liking.
We then drove several miles north to the South Jetty of the Columbia River. This is indeed the northern tip of Oregon and to mark the start of our coastal adventure, we wanted to get as close to it as possible. Short of actually venturing out on the jetty, this is just about as close as you can get.
By now it was early afternoon and we were hungry, so we made the short drive south to the town of Seaside, where I made the mistake of driving the RV into the main beach-front district, an area of tiny streets and much congestion. For heaven's sake, couldn't they just put up a sign. I can't be the first fool that's done this.
Retreating to the relative safety of Highway 101, we located a Safeway and got Chinese take-out which we ate in the RV.
Driving on to the next town, Cannon Beach, we lucked out and found an RV park not listed in the campground directory but right downtown. Before it got dark, we took Sadie for a long walk and took some more pictures. I think I've more than made up for yesterday's lack of picture taking.
